What this blog is about

Our class has been meeting in Los Angeles since 1994.  Our instructor uses a modified Iyengar approach, with the last 1/3 of class time devoted to restorative poses.  The last week of the month, the entire class is restorative poses.

Meditation has been shown by many studies to be a useful tool in enhancing one's health, particularly those with a compromised immune system.  Our class has a few minutes of meditation and/or breathing practice at the beginning, and at the end as well.  We recommend that anyone seeking to use yoga to support their HIV strategy to include meditation.

Many of the poses selected for class are specifically beneficial for the body's immune system.  Other poses focus on strengthening, flexibility, and anything emphasized in a typical yoga class.  Our teacher's one goal for the class is for each student to leave feeling better than when they arrived.  The class is completely non-competitive, and care is taken to welcome and include all ability levels.

We highly value the experience of practicing both with our teacher, who has many years of experience and is fully qualified, as well as developing our own practice away from class.  We hope this blog will support our community as a reference tool, and will enable others to use yoga and meditation as part of their HIV strategy.

There is never a charge for this class!  If you are in the Los Angeles area and would like to join us for class, please contact us at:  yogaforhiv@gmail.com
